EDITOR-RECOMMENDED RANDOM FUN ACTIVITY

Learn how to prepare a dish that you love but don't know how to prepare...something you'd be most excited to serve. Google up the recipe for it; perhaps get a book at your library for it, and find out the ingredients you'll need for them. Not everyone enjoys cooking, but if you do, then you know about that euphoric sensation that is felt when you get a certain recipe just right, and you can't wait to show off your dish and give those around you a taste! So, let's do this. This week.

LIFE QUOTE FOR THE WEEK

Some people will test you, some will use you, and some will teach you; but most importantly, some will bring out the very best in you. Learn to see and accept the differences between these people, and carry on accordingly.

ABOUT THE CONTEST

In the last newsletter, I had made mention of a new series of contests which I'll be holding every 6 weeks, and I'd absolutely love for you to participate! I'd also given a brief run-through about what's generally to be expected in the contest in terms of style and quality. (If you need a refresher about what was discussed, here's the link to the last newsletter: http://www.bellaonline.com/newsdtl.asp?name=LiteraryFiction&date=8/25/2013%201:05:03%20PM)

As I had mentioned before, one of the goals of this contest is to expand on our knowledge of literature and appreciate the beauty of its artistic stance. I do look forward to receiving your various responses and on expanding on my knowledge of literature!

CONTEST QUESTIONS - Pick one (1) only

1. THEME: Escape (escape from family pressures; escaping social constraints)
WHAT TO DO: Relate theme to any book you've read in your lifetime (300-400 words). It could be about a character in the book, or just the general idea of escape. It shouldn't matter what genre, as long as it's fiction. It doesn't matter if you write in 1st or 3rd person style.

OR

2. KEYWORDS:
Must
Fear
Motive
Eyes
Contaminate
WHAT TO DO: Try your hand on literary writing. Incorporate these 5 words in a 300/400-word fictional blurb that you have made up. This blurb could be a short prose/flash fiction or prose-poem. The five words must flow together with your story, must make sense, and should contain a literary element (read more on literary elements here www.kareyperkins.com/classes/420/litelements.pdf).

Contest will run from SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 TO OCTOBER 16, 2013. Please post/paste all blurbs to the comment box on my Bio page - http://www.bellaonline.com/about/LiteraryFiction), and include your name, email address and which question your blurb addresses. Please DO NOT reply to this email with your written attachments :)

A winner will be chosen after a few weeks of reviewing, and his/her work will be showcased on the literary fiction site. How exciting is this contest going to be!

I do hope you enjoyed the additions to the Literary Fiction newsletter; feel free to contact me with your comments, questions and/or concerns, I thrive greatly on your feedback! Simply reply to this newsletter, or type your message into the comment box on my Bio page (http://www.bellaonline.com/about/LiteraryFiction).

Do pass on this email along to family and friends; we all love free knowledge. Happy writing and posting!

Warmest regards,

Ije Kanu, Literary Fiction Editor
